The woodland lies within Brackla Communities First area. In the past it has been enjoyed by dog walkers and children, but unfortunately there have been some antisocial behaviour ( including drug related) issues, so the idea is to return it back to the community to enjoy.
Over two days, with the help and expertise from BCBC’s Countryside team, Groudwork, Keep Wales Tidy, Tidy Towns and the PCSO’s, Communities First Environment Group cleared trees and thinned out overgrown areas. New entrances and walkways were created around through the woods allowing a lot more light in, which will, in time, increase the biodiversity. There is a bit more work to be done to clear remaining litter and create steps over a section of steep banking, but the area is already much more inviting. With the planned species information boards in place and more publicity and greater awareness of this valuable green space, it can be used not just for recreation but also educational events for school children and adults alike as we move from spring into summer and beyond.
Many thanks to the partners involved and volunteers for making this project possible
